20 GF1 - Jetsons

Jetsons
For those who might not be familiar with this "vehicle", the Jetsons is an animated TV series that ran from 1962-1963. That is 5 years before Hot Wheels was even a product! Once again, we are looking at a diecast that has captured a moment in time.

The Jetsons casting is part of the HW City or HW City Tooned series, depending on the year of release. This one is the 2015 release. You can tell them apart by the wheel type. The clear wheel is either closed or open. 2015 was the only year to have the open spoked wheel type. Mattel has stayed true to the car and only released the casting in its TV green colors. I would like to see a recolored version and name it “Elroy's custom” or maybe in a red version for Jane. No matter how you look at it, it is taken from a particular point in time and has carried itself all the way to now, nearly 60 years later and it is still cool in my books. The overall design of the vehicle also captures the imagery that "spaceships" had in that particular point in time.

With only a few releases (2014, 2015 & 2017) it can be pesky to find out in the wild but there are some to be found online. It never really caught any collector premium so it can be found for a reasonable price. Don’t forget the 2015 release is the only one with open spokes so it may be the one to have. It doesn’t do well on the track systems because of its awkward shape and how light it is but it is a great collector piece.

Thank you,
Collector Quentin

I now own the actual diecast pictured in this post. However, all packaging artwork, Mattel or Hot Wheels logos, paint descriptions and wheel descriptions are copyrights of the Mattel toy company.
